Abstract:
Nowadays, heart failure is one of the most important issues to be considered in recent researches. One of the most important parts of heart is mitral valve, between left ventricle and left atrium. Variations that occur during ventricular contraction can impress mitral valve apparatus and lead to regurgitation from left ventricle to left atrium. In order to understand mitral valve function in such conditions, there are several methods. Noninvasive methods can help us to understand heart mechanisms, one of which is finite element method. In this paper, we developed the finite element model of mitral valve prolapse. Leaflets stresses in normal and prolapsed condition were determined and compared to previous results. These results are precious for clinical diagnosis and treatment of mitral valve prolapse related to malfunction of mitral valve.
