Abstract:

Background: Infertility in women is one of the most common problems. One of the most important causes of infertility in women is endometriosis. In this disease, the uterine endometrium connects to the peritoneum outside of uterus and leads to inflam-mation and changes in the structure of the uterus and fallopian tubes. L-Arginine, based on improved metabolism, can be a solu-tion to improve the complications of endometriosis on the uterus and uterine tubes and improve their histology. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of L-arginine on uterus and fallopian tubes in mouse model of endometriosis.Materials and Methods: In the first stage, induction of endo-metriosis in mice was done by injection of suspension of endo-metrium separated from the uterus of donor mice. In the sec-ond stage, the control group was divided into four treatments: control without any treatment, control receiving L-arginine intrapritonally (250 mg/1kg, every day), control receiving da-nazol intrapritoneally (25 mg/1kg, every other day) and control receiving L-arginine together with danazol. The endometriosis group was divided into four treatments: endometriosis without any treatment, endometriosis receiving L-arginine intraprito-neally (250 mg/1kg, every day), endometriosis receiving dana-zol intrapritoneally (25 mg/1kg, every other day), and endome-triosis receiving L-arginine together with danazol. At the end of the treatment period, the mice were dissected then uterus and fallopian tubes were separated and histologically examined. Results: study on sections of uterus and fallopian tubes tissue with optical microscope showed that induction of endome-triosis causes inflammation in the uterus and fallopian tubes, increasing epithelial cell length, increasing cell proliferation, decreasing myometrium layer thickness, dilating of the blood vessel, increasing glands and their secretions, reducing the cilia of the epithelial cells in fallopian tubes, adhesion and obstruc-tion of the fallopian tube. Microscopic examination showed that L-arginine improves some of the symptoms of endome-triosis, include decreasing cell proliferation and length of en-dometrial cells, reducing the secretion of the glands, and reduc-ing adhesion. Also Injection of danazol improved symptoms of endometriosis, include reducing cell proliferation, decreasing secretions and adhesions in fallopian tubes and the reducing ob-struction of fallopian tubes. Conclusion: It can be suggested that L-arginine and danazol can reduce the complications of endometriosis, and simultane-ous injection of L-arginine and danazol greatly reduces the ef-fects of endometriosis on the uterus and fallopian tubes.
