Abstract:

Interleukin 10 is an anti-inflammatory cytokine that causes cancer by prevention of stimulating the immune response. Polymorphism in this gene can play an important role in incidence and progression of the cancer. The genetic variations that affect interleukin expression may change the potential for breast cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the association of the promoteric rs1800872 polymorphism in the interleukin 10 gene with the risk of breast cancer. In a case-control project, 100 participants including 50 healthy controls and 50 cases with breast cancer referring to Shahid Behesti hospital were enrolled. After collection of blood samples from the subjects, polymorphism of rs180087 genotyping was performed by PCR-RFLP. Data analysis showed that there was no significant association between CA genotype and breast cancer risk (OR= 1.69, 95%CI= 0.75-3.84, p= 0.209 ( . In addition, AA genotype was not associated with an increased risk of breast cancer (OR= 0.61, 95%CI= 0.10-3.63, p= 0.585). Furthermore there was also no significant association between allele A and breast cancer risk (OR= 1.07, 95%CI= 0.57-1.99, p= 0.83). According to the above-mentioned results, rs1800872 polymorphism cannot be considered as a risk factor for breast cancer in our studied population. Indeed, further studies with more sample size are needed to achieve more accurate results.
