Study the Association of Genetic Variation rs1799983 in Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS3) Gene with the Risk of Male Infertility

Abstract:
Male infertility is a multifactorial disease that occurs as a result of the interaction of genetic and environmental factors. Many studies showed that oxidative stress could be considered as a main cause of male infertility. Nitric oxide (NO) is a highly reactive free radical gas that plays a pathophysiological role in male infertility. High levels of this gas potentially harmful for sperm function and sperm DNA integrity. The aim of this study is to determine the association of the rs1799983 polymorphism in the NO gene with the risk of male infertility. We studied this polymorphism in two groups, the patient group consisted of 52 infertile men and the control group consisted 55 healthy individuals, who were referring to Kashan infertility center. After collection of blood samples from the subjects, genotyping of rs1799983 polymorphism was performed by PCR-RFLP method. Data analysis showed that there was no significant association between GT genotype and increased risk of male infertility (OR= 0.92, 95%CI= 0.43 to 1.99, p= 0.843) and also there was no significant association between TT genotype and male infertility (OR= 1.26, 95%CI= 0.024 - 66.36, p= 0.906) as well as T allele (OR= 1.0992, 95%CI= 0.58- 2.08, p= 0.7712). According to these data analyzing, rs1799983 polymorphism couldn’t be a risk factor for male infertility.
