C-kit Expression and ALDH1A1 Expression in the Stroma of Phyllodes Tumor of the Breast

Background: stem cell growth factor receptor (SCFR), also known as c-Kit or tyrosine-protein kinase Kit or CD117, is encoded by the KIT gene. ALDH1A1 or aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the ALDH1A1 gene. Phyllodes tumors (PTs) are Typical, large, fast-growing masses that originated from periductal stromal cells of the breast. They make up less than 1% of all breast neoplasms. Increased expression and mutation in genes have been implicated in the development of various tumors. Hence, the goal of this article is the examination role of c-kit expression and ALDH1A1 expression in the stroma of phyllodes tumor of the breast.Methods: This study is a systematic review article by surveying articles of databases and credible scientific websites include Science Direct, PubMed, scopus, and with keywords was phyllodes, c-kit, pathology conducted during 2000 - 2018. Results: CD117 and ALDH1A1 expression in the stroma of PTs, was positively associated with tumor grade, stromal mitotic activity, stromal overgrowth, and stromal atypia. CD117 expression was also observed with more reduced overall survival.Conclusions: CD117 and ALDH1A1 expression may demonstrate a malignant progression of tumor and may be used to diagnose histologically benign tumors of borderline and malignant tumors, especially in challenging cases.
