Abstract:

Background: Adult puberty is a transitional period between childhood and adulthood, and the onset of menstruation is recognized as an important indicator of health and socioeconomic status of societies. The aim of this study was to determine the mean age of menarche in female students of Fariman city.Methods: In this cross - sectional study, 300 of high school students in farimanwere selected by multistage stratified sampling method. Data were collected by a questionnaire. data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics,including pearson correlation coefficient test and anova using spss statistical software.Results: The meanage of menarchein children 12 yearsand 6 months. The beginning of the menarche was more frequent in the summer (38.18%) and the least in the winter(15%). There is no significant relationship between the occupation and education of the parents, the place of residence and the birth rank of the students with age of menarche But there is a significant relationship between the age of menarche with weight, height, and BMI the average weight, height, and BMI of the students who were menarche were more than those who did not menarche.meanmenarche situationnon- menarche situationp-valueHeight± Std.deviation5.7 ±157.6151.9±6.80.000> Weight± Std.deviation48.8±9.540.4±8.60.000> BMI± Std.deviation19.5±3.317.4±2.90.000> Conclusion : With the increase in body mass index, the age of menarche begins to decrease and considering the increasing trend of overweight and obesity prevalence in children and adolescents and the effect of obesity on early onset and its complications in the community, attention to controllable environmental factors and it s important to make obesity, including a diet pattern and a pattern of activity in this vulnerable group.
