Abstract:
Effect of thickness on fatigue behavior of plates made of steel alloy GOST 08Ch22N6T is investigated experimentally. The experiments are carried out using CT specimens according to standard test method ASTM E647. Plates with thicknesses 1.25, 1.64 and 4.06 mm are tested at different stress ratios including 0.33, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6. Load amplitude is applied commensurately to specimen thickness. Separating the effect of thickness and load amplitude shows that thicker specimens experience higher fatigue crack propagation rate. The results of two-dimensional finiteelement analysis are in good agreement with experimental results.
