Abstract:
Background and Objectives: The main feature of Parkinson’s disease (PD) as a neurodegenerative disorder is degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in substantia nigari which leads toa wide range of motor and non-motor conditions such as tremor, imbalance in motion, muscle stiffness, and bradykinesia. In many studies it has been shown that by destroying HP in PD patient motor symptoms, especially fluctuations improved and it causesan effective improvement in the pharmacokinetic and clinical responses to levodopa. In present study, we aim to investigate the correlation between PD and helicobacter infection. Materials and Methods: Our case and control study included75Patients who went to the Namazee hospital in Shiraz, south of Iran, they suffered from Parkinson disease and the Helicobacter pylori infection, and 90health persons as our control. All of them filled the informed consent forms under the ethics committee approval. Serum IgM, IgG and IgA antibodies to H.pylori were assessed by ELISA test. Results: Patients were divided into two group’s Parkinson’s infected and control healthy(61.4% male, 38.6% female) with the mean age of 66 ± 10.5 years in Parkinson’s infected and 52.5 ± 10.5 years in control group. The level of IgA in Parkinson’s infected with H. pyloriwas significantly more than that in their control group (p≤0.01). The serum levels of IgG and IgM in Parkinson’sinfected patients with H. pylori were higher, compared to the levels in controlgroups, but they were not significant. Change in clinical characteristicin Parkinson’s infected with H. pylori, compared to uninfected Parkinson’sdisease was low. Conclusion: IgAlevels in the serum ofParkinson’s infected with H. pyloripatients were significantly more than that in their corresponding control group.
