Abstract:

Introduction: Obesity is a non-transmissible disease which is developing rapidly. The roots of obesity and overweight begin with a childhood and formed at home. so identifying the causes of obesity-overweight and the use of appropriate methods for the elimination of obesity at an early age and institutionalizing the right food behaviors and having physical activity is considered an appropriate approach. Accordingly, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the causes of obesity and providing low-risk and safe preventive approaches in obese children in Sari during of 2018 in Sari.Methods: This is a case-control study. 300 male students of elementary school were selected through four stage sampling method in the second semester of 2018 in Sari city. The control group included 150 obese and overweight students (75 students living in the city and 75 rural students) (borderline 95 TH ≥BMI≥85 TH for overweight and 95 TH ≤BMI for obesity) and 150 normal weight peers of the 4 primary schools. The weight, height of the children was measured by means of measuring (scales and measurements). Data were collected through a three-part questionnaire including demographic information, physical activity and 24-hour recall. Data were then entered into SPSS18 software and analyzed in the final.Family BMI has a direct relationship with the BMI of children. The greatest influence of BMI was on fathers (48.3%) and mothers (39.9%). No significant relationship was found between mother s job and child obesity (65.7% of housewife s mothers).There was no significant relationship between socioeconomic status and obesity, but the children living in the city were 35.3% more obese than rural children. The rate of watching television and computer games in the children of the city was 53.6% higher than the children living in the village.Conclusion: Identifying the causes of obesity in children and employing safe and low-risk preventive approaches can help to improve the health status of children over the ages. Increase physical activity, control appetite, balance energy intake, and apply psychological approaches to weight adjustment, help parents to encourage weight adjustment for obese children at present, safe and low-risk methods are available.
