Abstract:

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex neurodegenerative disease. Many immune cells including T cells are involved in the development of this disease. Pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines are necessary for lymphocyte infiltration across the blood-brain barrier. CCL-27 as an inflammatory chemokine is correlated with T cells homing to the site of inflammation in this disease. The aim of this study was the evaluation of CCL-27 and its receptor levels in MS patients.Material and Methods: 40 MS patients and 40 healthy people participated in this study. The plasma concentration of CCL-27 was measured by sandwich ELISA method, and CCR-10 gene expression level was analyzed with Real-time PCR method. Results: The plasma levels of CCL-27 was significantly lower in MS patients compared to healthy subjects (P<0.001). The gene expression of CCR-10 had not a significant alteration between MS patients and healthy subjects (P=0.327).Conclusion: We found the levels of CCL-27 was lower in MS patients compared with healthy control. This result could be considered in the investigation of skin-immune cells association with MS pathogenesis.
