Abstract:

Background: Due to the increased resistance of urban pests such as German cockroaches, it is important to use new methods for pests control. The use of gel bait is a new and effective method of chemical control. This study aimed to determine the susceptibility of different strain of German cockroaches to gel bait and their differences in mortality. Objective: In Iran, Blattella germanica is the most common pest in residential and commercial places. The use of commercial bait insecticide has been the main method in controlling German cockroach (Blattella germanica). Thus, information about the efficacy of commercial products must be available. Matherial and method: This study reports the efficacy of 4 gel baits insecticides including Alpine, Invict gold, Vendetta Plus and Vendetta against German cockroach collected in 2017. Test design and bait placement were according to the World Health Organization (WHO) protocol to achieve a %95 mortality rate, based on this protocol, for each bait 3 replicates are required, and for each replicate 25 male german cockroach were used. Results: The results of this study showed that the mortality of all 4 gel bait was relatively more severe in the early hours and days and %100 mortality occurred after 24 , 192 and 156 hours for Dinotefuran %0/5 and Imidacloprid %2/15, Abamectin %0/05 , Abamectin %0/05 + Pyriproxyfen% 0/5 respectively. Conclusion: Results showed the high mortality among insecticide , particularly in the investigation of resistant strains, good results were obtained. In conclusion, commercial gel baits should be improved and it may be effective than spraying method against German cockroaches.
