Abstract:

Background: Culexpipienscomplex are important to transmission of arboviruses including St. Louis encephalitis, West Nile, Sindbis, and Rift Valley fever viruses.Cx. pipiens and Cx. quinquefasciatus appear to be closely related, but have been reported in distinct species in Iran. Objectives: This study was done to determine the susceptibility status of Cx pipiens to Karate Zeon insecticides in insectary condition.Materialsand Methods: The susceptibility status of field strains of Cx.pipiens to Lambda-cyhalothrin EC 2.5%were determined at Culicidae Insectary, Medical Entomology and Vector control, SPH,TUMS, using WHO technique. Standard larvicidal and recovery bioassays tests were used at 0.001–1000 ppm. The Lc50 and Lc90 values were obtained using Probit analysis. Results: The LC50 and LC90 values for Lambda-cyhalothrin were measured as 8.510, 2.10 ppm respectively. More than 99% adult emergence inhibition was occurred in larvae recovered from treatments with test concentrations ranging from 100–1000 ppm Conclusion:It is the first formal study which defines LC50, LC90 values of lambda-cyhalothrin onCx.pipiens larvae in Iran. Entomological surveillance and Future studies are recommended to identify Larvicidal effect of lambda-cyhalothrin in semifield and field conditions
