Abstract:

Background: Flies are among the largest groups of insects that live in human-living environment and cause serious problems including transmit numerous pathogens to human beings. One of the most important health issues is studying the diversity of medically important flies in the urban and rural areas for the purpose of their population control. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the diversity of medically important flies in Qaemshahr City (2017-2018). Materials and Methods: The flies were hunted in the city for 1 year and monthly. For this purpose, mesh and plastic bottle with inverted opening was used. The flies were identified to the species level by using valid diagnostic keys and the species descriptions and explanations were used Results: In this study, eight species of medically important flies including Lucilia sericata, Lucilia Ceasar, challiphora vicina Sarcophagas variegat, Sarcophagas Afrika, sarcophaga lehmania, Muscina stabulans, and Musca domestica were hunted from three families of (Muscidae, caliphoridae and Sarcophagidae). Highest prevalence rate of the flies was observed in the months’ of June and July (summer), but the lowest rate in the months of February and March (winter). Conclusion: The diversity of flies and their abundance, especially in spring and early of summer, is high in the city and more proceedings control should be taken during this period
