Study the effect of prenatal care education at home on the empowerment women referring to health centers in Shiraz in the 2014-2015 years

Abstract:

Background and Objectives: There are critical stages during women’s life time which can influence their life dramatically. One of these stages is pregnancy period especially first one. One of main W.H.O goals is personal, familial and social empowering in order to promote mothers and children’s health. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluating the effect of prenatal care education at home on empowerment of primigravida women. Materials and methods: In the present interventional study which was a clinical trial interventional, 65 primigravida women who were qualified to take part were selected through available sampling and were allocated to intervention and control groups randomly. Intervention included 6 educational sessions, (three sessions during third quarter of pregnancy and three sessions during first, second and sixth post- partum week) interventions were that conducted at home. Control group received usual care. Data were collected using demographic data questionnaire, pregnant women empowerment questionnaire and post-partum mothers’ empowerment questionnaire. Data collection was done at four points (before the intervention as baseline data, and first, second and sixth postpartum week Results: No significant difference was found between two groups regarding their demographic characteristics and mean scores of pregnant women’s empowerment. Results revealed a significant statistical difference between two groups regarding average scores of post-partum mothers empowerment. Conclusion: Study findings showed that providing prenatal care education program at home can promote mothers empowerment in primigravida women.Message for policymakers: Home visit is one of the best ways to educate and empower women in all aspects.
