Abstract:

Background: Women constitute half of the population of Iranian society and due to their important functions in the family and society, their health is of various dimensions. Mental health, due to its nature and content, is one of the most important aspects of women s health. This article seeks to find out the level of mental health among women in Tabriz and to investigate the impact of social support on it.Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 200 women aged 15 years and over in Tabriz using cluster sampling method. Data were analyzed using (Linear Regression and independent sample t-test).Results: Social support did not correlate with women s physical symptoms (p = 0.02), social support had an inverse relationship with anxiety symptoms - women s sleep disorder (p = 0.02), social support had no relationship with women s social performance (p = 0.06), Social status was inversely correlated with women s depressive symptoms (p = 0.04) and, ultimately, women s social support had a direct relationship with their mental health (p = 0.02).Conclusion: Community support has a significant and direct relationship with women s health. Changing policies aimed at improving the quality and quantity of support networks, especially for vulnerable women, can reinforce the protective effects of social protection.Message for policymakers: Given the results of the study, it is suggested that policymakers and practitioners in the field of mental health (especially citizens) devise practical policies that increase social support (perceived and received), and strengthen religious beliefs, and thus, Reduce mental stress and promote mental health. It is also necessary to pay special attention to the issue of mental health among women and girls of lower social classes to equip them with valuable resources such as self-esteem, knowledge and awareness, and life skills that can improve or enhance help their mental health.
