The courtyard in traditional house as model for sustainable design

Sustainable design requires renewable resources impacting invironment and connecting peopleto natural environment are important in sustainable design.This article aims at investigating the concept of traditional courtyard in houses of Iran.Courtyards that use in hot arid climate for make sustainable design in hot_aird regions sbuildings.The study demonstrates that the fundamental elements design of courtyards is orientation,dimension and proportions of enclosed and open spaces ,transparent surfaces and naturalelements like water and soil.In conclusion with all the survey in this field, we can propose a physical_environment forcourtyard in hot_arid regions.This proposed model can be generalized for all similar environmental condition.
