Abstract:
Background & Aim: A technology for fertility assistance is the use of donated oocyte. Although the data about medical aspects of this process is available, the knowledge of psychological affairs related to this therapy is limited. Self-concept is able to investigate the psychological aspects of every person and therefore, we decided to study these measures on women who receive and donate oocyte and fertile women. Methods: In this comparative investigation, 53 women were investigated in each of thedonor and fertile groups using the available Sampling method. The data were collected by atwo part questionnaire including demographic questions, Rogers self-concept scalequestions. The data were analyzed through SPSS16 and by use of statistical tests includingChi-square, ANOVA and T test. Results: The results showed that self-concept was poor in a higher percentage of individuals in both groups. The scores of the infertile women group were higher than the fertile women and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (p = 0.045).Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it can be concluded that infertility and treatment with donor oocyte, it weakens the self-concept. Therefore, authorities should consider measures to assess the psychological dimensions of infertile women who are candidates for oocyte.
