Abstract:

Introduction and Objectives: Studies have shown that women with preeclampsia are at increased risk for future metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of lifestyle in improving the outcomes of preeclampsia and promoting long-term health of these women.Method: This review study was conducted using searches of studies in various databases. During the search, all the published studies between 2004 and 2019 were used with topic-related keywords, of which 13 articles were included as the most appropriate topic coverage. Results: A review of these studies showed that in recent years, the emphasis on lifestyle interventions for women with preeclampsia has increased. Significant obstacles were reported by women not adopting a healthy lifestyle, their lack of awareness, and poor support from women during postpartum by maternal care providers. However, there is limited literature reviewing the efficacy of postpartum lifestyle interventions following preeclampsia.Discussion & Conclusion: Research has shown that there is a link between lifestyle choices and habits with decreasing cardiovascular factors and that lifestyle can also play an important role in improving the long-term consequences of preeclampsia in the postpartum period, so maternal care providers should take the time to discuss and counsel these women to reform and change their postpartum lifestyle.
