Abstract:

Background and Objective: Family is the basic social unit of society. Marital adjustment is one of the most important factors affecting family function. Communication skills are specific abilities that are essential to create a relationship. The aim of this study was review of effectiveness of communication skills on couple’s relationships.Materials and Methods: 20 related articles from 2008 to 2017 were reviewed with the keywords of communication skills, marital adjustment, marital intimacy and sexual satisfaction in PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct and SID.Results: All papers were interventional-clinical trials study and had considered the effectiveness of communication skills training on couple’s relationships, that according to, communication skills training were effective in increasing marital adjustment, happiness, intimacy, satisfaction and mental health as well as increasing the family’s efficiency in solving the conflict between couples, communication, roles, emotional responsiveness, control of the behavior and total family function. It also reduced violence against women and improved the quality of life.Conclusion: Due to the positive effect of communication skills on couple’s relationships, training of these skills in premarital counseling and in common life by informed consultants in this field in health centers and clinics is recommended.
