Abstract:

Background and Aim : Ritalin is a psychostimulant medicine widely used for the treatment of ADHD. Insomnia, euphoria, mania are known as characteristics of this medicine. Unfortunately, reports are indicating that Ritalin is consumed occasionally by students and adolescents at parties or nights before exams. However, this population has not been taken seriously in this regard, especially when it comes to females, there are no significant studies. The current study set out to express Ritalin abuse and its effects on Dopamine Beta hydroxylase in the prefrontal cortex of rat also corticosterone levels and its association with anxiety are addressed in do the gendersMethods : In methods rats divided randomly into six groups. (gonadectomized male and female rats, Ritalinized & gonadectomized male and females, control intact male & female). We injected rats intraperitoneal (IP) with 10mg/kg of Ritalin twice a day to 30 days. On day 30, all rats were examined by EPM and open field tests. To be able to measure Dopamine Beta hydroxylase enzyme levels we removed Prefrontal areas through IHC procedure. Serum corticosterone levels were analyzed in all ratsResults : 1)serum corticostrone levels were found significantly more in female control groups than in ovarectomized groups. 2) Serum corticostrone levels were also recognized more in both gonadectomized groups of rats than in the control male group. EPM: Both gonadectomized groups of rats spent significantly less time in the open arms than in the closed arm compared to the control groups. The time spent in the open arm was significantly less in the females control group than in ovariectomized groups. The number of entering the open arms in the control male group was significantly more than both gonadectomized groups of rats. In the study of prefrontal the density of positive DBH fibers displayed significantly more in gonadectomized males than in intact males group. In the females control group the density of positive DBH fibers displayed significantly more than in ovarectimized groups. In the intact control male, the density of positive DBH fibers was considerably less compared to gonadectomized groups. Conclusion : The findings of this study indicated the effects of gonadal hormones on anxiety as well as the differences between the two gardeners and the important effect of gonadal hormones on anxiety and noradrenergic system
