Abstract:

Background and Aim : A number of studies have shown that excess use of mobile phone during pregnancy may influence the health status and weight of the infant. This systematic review examined the connection between the excess use of the mobile phone and the health status and weight of the infant. Methods : We searched all studies in the Punmed, Cochrane collaboration library, and Google Scholar at all levels from 2009 to June 2019. The articles were examined by two independent reviewers according to the preset criteria and the related data were extracted. Initial outcomes related to birth weight loss, emergency neonatal transport, preterm birth of the infant, health status of the infant bright height, infant head circumference, delivery type, weeks of pregnancy, placental weight, low birth weight and birth chest circumference were analyzed. Results : A total of 12600 studies were evaluated. After the initial screening, 72 abstracts were studied of which only 3 original studies were included in this systematic review. There were only two studies on the effects of mobile phone use on the newborn, with one looking at its effects at 5 years of age. The total number of subjects in these two studies was 1661, who were in the age range of 20 to 35 years. The results of one study suggested that the birth weight and emergency neonatal transport in the study group (with excess use of mobile phone) were significantly higher than the normal group. However, this finding was not confirmed in the other study. Conclusion : Given the absence of any accurate information on the effects of excess use of the mobile phone / cordless phone on the newborn during pregnancy, further studies with different confounders are recommended
