EVALUATION OF TENDENCY TO ADDICTION AMONG NURSES OF KERMANSHAH UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

Abstract:

Background and Aim : Occupational conditions can affect substance use. In this regard, nurses are more susceptible to addiction because of their vulnerability to occupational stress, fatigue, and tough working conditions. The aim of this study was to evaluate of tendency to addiction among nurses of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences.Methods : In this cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study, 600 nurses working in hospitals affiliated to Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in 2017 were selected through simple stratified sampling. The instrument of gathering was demographic information and tendency to addiction questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and variance analysis by SPSS-21 software.Results : The mean score of tendency to addiction was 35.89, overall showed that most nurses did not tendency to addiction or this amount was low. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between age, marital status and work experience with tendency to addiction (P> 0.05). But the tendency to addiction with the variables of education, position, division and Nurses working time was statistically significant. (P <0.01).Conclusion : Regarding the existence the tendency to addiction among nurse and their relationship with education, position, division and Nurses working time, It is recommended that policy makers and healthcare sector consider the programs needed to prevent addiction and improve their occupational status.
