Background and Aim :
Addicts who are withdrawing drugs have symptoms of drug deprivation, which is one of the symptoms is pain.
Acupressure is effective in reducing dysmenorrhea, labor pain, back pain, chronic
pain and post traumatic pain. Regarding the fact that there has been no study on the effect of acupressure on the intensity and perception of
pain of male addicts in the addiction camp, the present study was designed.Methods : This article is derived from the master s thesis approved by the Pain Research Center of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences with the code PAIN-9708, the code of ethics IR.AJUMS.REC.1397.455 and the code of the Iranian Center for Clinical Trials IRCT20170117032023N2. The present study was a single-blind clinical trial that was performed on addicted men referred to addiction camps in Masjed-Soleyman. The intervention was performed simultaneously for 3 consecutive days and 3 times for 10 minutes for each leg at specific points with thumb press. The data gathering tool was demographic information registration form and McGill
pain questionnaire. Repeated measures models and T independent were used to analyze the data.Results : There were no significant differences between intervention and control groups in terms of demographic information (p> 0.05). The results showed a significant difference between
pain intensity and perception, evaluative and emotional perception of
pain and varied and diverse pains in the intervention group before and after the intervention (p <0.05). Pain intensity from first day to third day in intervention group significantly decreased more than control group (p <0.0001) but in control group there was statistically significant increase (p <0.0001). Conclusion :
Acupressure has a beneficial effect on reducing
pain intensity and perception in addicted patients. Considering the cost-effectiveness of this method and the need for special tools and lack of side effects, use of this method is recommended to reduce the
pain of addicted people
