Background and Aim : Opioid dependence is one of the major social and psychiatric problem of society. Unfortunately there is no non opiate treatment available. For centuries man has used plants for their healing proprieties. Thymoquinone is a pharmacologically active constituents of the nigella sativa volatile oil. Thymoquinone have several properties including anticonvulsant, antidepressant, anxiolytic, anti-ischemic, analgesic, antipsychotic, and memory enhancer.Methods : This study is a review of the literature on Thymoquinone and Treatment of Opioid Addiction . The search for articles was performed on the PubMed, Medline, and Google Scholar online databases, using the search terms Thymoquinone , pharmacotherapy , Opioid , Addiction , Nigella Sativa Results : Thymoquinone (TQ), has a role in treating opioid withdrawal syndrome. Many therapeutic potential of TQ have been reported in a variety of medical conditions. TQ also exhibits calcium channel blocker properties which may be contribute in addiction treatment.Also, The Nigella sativa oil and thymoquinone produce antinociceptive effects through indirect activation of the supraspinal mu1 and kappa-opioid receptor subtypes Conclusion : As a conclusion, we would like to suggest probably with the supplementation of Thymoquinone as main component of N. sativa to methadone in addict patients
