THE VIEWPOINT OF ADDICTS WIVES ABOUT RESPONSIBLE FACTORS FOR ADDICTION

Background and Aim : Drug addiction is one of the social problems that not only creates psychological and social problems for the addict, but also creates problems for their families. Identification of effective factors responsible for addiction, especially from the wives of addicts viewpoint who are the closest members to the affected in comparison to others in the family is very important.Methods : This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a special questionnaire and included 60 spouses of addicts referring to the methadone maintenance center (MMT) of jahrom city who were selected randomly. Results : The mean age of the addicts was 28.7 ± 7.3 years, while the mean age of their wives was 26.4 ± 6.8. The most frequently abused substances were opium (54.7%).The results showed that from the wives of addict s viewpoint, easy access to drugs was the most important factor responsible for addiction (Mean score of 5.42 ± 0.64 from a total score of 6). Conclusion : It can be stated that control of environmental factors and promotion of self confidence in people can play an important role in the prevention of addiction
