Abstract:

Background and Aim : The aim of this research was to study the effects of self-help skills training program on social skills of children with intellectual disability on mental health of their mothers. The papulation of this research were children with intellectual disability and their mothers in Tehran, who were referred to rehabilitation centers. The sample consisted of 20 trainable children with intellectual disability and their mothers, who were selected and assigned randomly into the experimental and control groups. The experimental group experienced a 20 self-help skills training sessions for 30 minutesMethods : The instruments of this research were Symptom Check List SCL– 90 (Droghatt, Rickels, & Rock, 1976) which was used in the pre-test and post-test stages. The obtained data was analyzed using Analysis of CovarianceResults : The research findings showed that training program of self-help skills was effective for improving mental health of mothers of children with intellectual disability.Conclusion : The research findings showed that training program of self-help skills was effective for improving mental health of mothers of children with intellectual disability.
