Abstract:

Background and Aim : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of group hope therapy on cognitive functions (memory, inhibitory control) in elderly with Alzheimer s symptoms.Methods : This study is a quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design with control group and applied type. Statistical population of all elderly (district 1 of Tehran city with diagnosed psychiatrist with Alzheimer s symptoms) residing in one of the nurses. Elderly people were randomly selected and replaced in two groups of 10 each. The experimental group received hope therapy and the control group did not receive any intervention. The data collection tool was the Rescue Cognitive Functions Questionnaire (2013). The data were analyzed by SPSS software.Results : The results showed that hope group therapy can significantly increase the cognitive functions (memory and inhibitory control) of the elderly with Alzheimer s symptoms. Practical theoretical perspectives will therefore be discussed.Conclusion : Considering the efficacy of group hope therapy on cognitive functions (memory, selective attention) in the elderly with Alzheimer s symptoms, it can be concluded that in order to increase cognitive functions among the elderly, especially the elderly who have Alzheimer s symptoms, Hope Therapies was used as a workshop in nursing homes and psychology centers.
