Abstract:

Investigating with the help of numerical simulation for an innovative wedge-shaped discharge trailing edge cooling system is one of the essential procedures. A computational fluid dynamic analysis was executed by means of commercial software modeling the air flow and using the k-ω SST turbulence model and airflow for the static condition. In order to enhance the heat transfer of the channel, Three configurations were investigated for oblong shaped and elliptic pins with an open tip and close tip condition for a Reynolds number between 10,000 and 50,000. The results reveal a direct effect of the Reynolds number and the configurations of a cooling scheme on the heat transfer coefficient Results of the average Nusselt number inside the Oblong shaped and Elliptic pins duct region are presented too. Results indicate the elliptic pins generates higher the heat transfer coefficient and also the elliptic arrangement lower pressure losses. The extracted data help to estimate the flow field and the evaluation of the aero-thermal efficiency of the considered blade cooling scheme in the course of the design step.
