Abstract:

In recent years, search for finding of novel agents with anti-schizophrenia activity and low adverse effects has been developed. In this study, anti-schizophrenia role of Globularia meridionalis methanol extract has been measured via examination of depressive-like behaviors in murine model of ketamine-induced schizophrenia.Materials & Methods: For inducing of schizophrenia, ketamine (100 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally injected to mice. Thereafter, extract was intra-cerebroventricularly administrated and after 30 min, despair swimming test was performed for examination of depressive-like behaviors of mice. Results: showed that extract possess anti-schizophrenia activity through decreasing of the immobility and increasing of the swimming and climbing times. Conclusion & discussion: We concluded that G. meridionalis have anti-schizophrenia role and considering to its negligible adverse effects, this plant can be served as a novel natural class of anti-psychotics for the reducing of depressive-like behaviors in schizophrenia patients.
