Abstract:

Introduction: Skin lesions and scars caused by them are one of the major challenges of health care systems around the world. The use of Mesenchymal Stem Cells to accelerate the wound healing is in progress. The present study is aimed to investigate the effect of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells (BMSCs) effect on healing open skin lesions. Methods: Our study was performed on 60 healthy male wistar rats weighing 200-250 gr and 3 to 4 months old. A full thickness 15 x 15 mm square wound was created under general anesthesia. The wounds in experimental groups, were treated once a day with injecting 5mg of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells (BMSCs), DMEM culture media, and topical phenytoin ointment on wound surface, no treatment was performed on the wounds of the control group. Results: Among the variables of fibroblasts, macrophages, neutrophils and number of vessels, the parameters that had a significant difference in the wound bed, after wound treatment with Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells (BMSCs), compared with the control and control+ groups, were fibroblasts and number of vessels. In this study, it was found that there is a significant difference between the wound surfaces in different groups at different times. The results of this study showed that the use of Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells (BMSCs), increases the percentage of wound healing in all groups ranged from day 4 to day 14.Conclusion: The results of our study showed that using injected Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells (BMSCs) on wound surface, accelerates wound healing based on histopathologic criterias
