Abstract:

Background: Mycobacterium fortuitum is a bacterium that can cause infections of many areas of the body including the skin, lymph nodes, and joints. It belongs to a group of bacteria, known as nontuberculous mycobacterium and has been considered as an important nosocomial pathogen worldwide owing to its increasing antibiotic resistance.Nowadays, the antimicrobial effects of carbon nanotubes have been shown in numerous studies, and these nanotubes can be very useful in drug delivery and also they have unique properties in the fight against multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Aim: In this study antimicrobial effects study of Fanctionalized Multi-wall Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT-COOH) on Mycobacterium fortuitum was done. Methods: Standard and pathogens strains of Mycobacterium fortuitum were treated under different doses of Nanofluid (NF) containing Functionalized Multi-wall CNTs with concentration of 2mg/ml, NF and Antibiotic alone and NF with Antibiotic. Then the MIC and MBC tests observation were performed for all treated strains. Results: It was observed that multi-wall carbon nanotubes can have antimicrobial effects on Mycobacterium fortuitum and the resistance of this bacterium to the antibiotic Tetracycline significantly decreased. Although to get more accurate results, we are doing more specialized cellular and molecular investigation.
