Introduction & objective: Oral mucositis (OM) is considered as a one of treatment-related complications that happens in the course of chemotherapy in patients with malignancies including breast cancer. Handling of OM has been a serious challenge for oncologists due to detrimental effects that may OM has on patients with cancer. According to some studies elucidated the possibility of decreasing in rate of OM by using dexamethasone solution(DS). Our main object was to show the benefits the patients will achieve when DS accompany by courses of chemotherapy.Methods: This study consisted of 60 patients who 32 of them was the intervention group while 28 of them was the control group. We gave our patients four courses regimen and DS every two weeks and examined them every two weeks for six times for emerging OM.Results: None of patients showed either grade 3 or 4 and the significant decrease in OM in patients who DS was added to their routine therapy as a prophylaxis.Conclusion: According to the result of the current study, the efficacy of DS for preventing OM in patients with early-stage of breast cancer is more significant compared to its adverse effects. Given the importance of OM in patients with breast cancer, DS plus the routine treatments are the best choices for reducing the odds of OM emerging.
