خلاصه مقاله:
Background and Aim : Further knowledge of the migraine pathology elucidates the role ofmagnesium in the treatment of the disease. In the current study we have aimed to evaluate themagnesium sulphate, as an adjuvant treatment, in managing acute migraine. Methods : In this randomized clinical trial study, patients with migraine referred to AhvazGolestan Hospital emergency department. Patients characteristics included gender, age and weightwere extracted from the files. Patients were randomly divided in two equal groups using blockrandomization method, Group A received 2 g intravenous infusion (I.V) Magnesium sulphatealong with 10 mg metoclopramide. And group B received 10 mg metoclopramide and placebo. The pain level was measured by NRS at baseline, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after interventionResults : Eighty patients were randomly assigned into two groups, forty (50%) were male. Mostpatients were between 30 and 40 years old. The baseline characteristics have not shown significa ntdifferences between the groups. The mean pain level at admission was not significantly differe nt(9.94 and 10, respectively). Although pain reduction was significant in both groups, there was asignificant difference between the two groups. The pain reduction slope in the group A, wassignificantly more significant. Conclusion : The findings of this study showed that the use of magnesium sulphate along withmetoclopramide increased the effect of metoclopramide in managing acute migraine. However, our findings could not support the independent effect of magnesium sulphate on the reduction ofmigraine headaches.
