Abstract:

Background and Aim : The aim of this study was to determine the effect of endometrial biopsy onpregnancy rate in infertile women undergoing IUI in Shariati Hospital between 2016 and 2017.Methods : In this randomized clinical trial, 122 consecutive infertile patients under IUI in Shariati Hospitalin 2014 and 2015 were enrolled. They were randomly assigned to receive either endometrial biopsy or not. After attainment of minimally a follicle with size of 18-20 mm, HCG was administered and after 24-36hours IUI was done. Then the laboratory (by Beta-HCG) and ultrasonographic pregnancy and abortion, follicle count, and endometrial thickness were compared across the groups. Results : : According to Beta-HCG 24.6% and 14.8% were pregnant in intervention and control groups, respectively without significant difference (P > 0.05). In all these subjects, the pregnancy sac was seen andone case in each group the fetal heart rate was not detected. One abortion case was seen in each group.Totally 34.4% and 14.8% were pregnant in intervention and control groups, respectively with statisticallysignificant difference (P=0.012).Conclusion : Totally, according to the obtained results in current study, it may be concluded thatendometrial biopsy is not effective for increasing the fertility rate in women under IUI; but regardingincrease seen in spontaneous pregnancy rate, it would result in increased total pregnancy rate amonginfertile women under IUI.
