Abstract:

Vitamin D plays a key role in muscle function and can therefore affect body function. The purpose of this review is to Effect of vitamin D supplementation in the context of sport nutrition and its potential role in optimizing athletic performance.English and Persian language databases were searched up to 2019, using related keywords, to discover studies related to the effects of vitamin D supplementation on exercise performance. A manual search was also conducted encompassing national and local research projects in Iran. Out of an initial total of 40 studies, 17 articles were included. People with a higher vitamin D level are more physically fit. Also exercise and vitamin D supplementation independently improved physical function and increased muscle mass. In addition, the combination of exercise and vitamin D supplements may enhance these positive effects.So higher vitamin D levels may improve performance.
