Abstract:

The present study investigates Stephanie C. Fox’s novel, The Bear Guarding the Beehive through the lenses of Rachel Carson ecocritical theory. According to Carson’s theory since everything is interconnected in nature, the destruction of one or several parts of it will lead to the destruction of the whole system. As a result, if nature is destroyed, human beings who are part of nature will be destroyed, too. The study delineates how an imaginary land, Oblivion, which has striking likeliness to our real world is destroyed by the greed and wantonness of Thieves, the owners of monster corporations. Hence, to survive in this environment, human beings have to realize they are just part of this ecosystem and they should not do whatever they want to animals and nature just for their own economic gain.
