Abstract:

This study attempted to investigate the impact of CALL-based teaching of English reading comprehension on reducing anxiety among Iranian intermediate EFL learners. It was an experimental research and was done in one of the English institutes in Esfahan. First 80 intermediate students were chosen randomly. They took Quick Placement Test (QPT) proficiency for homogeneity. This being so, sixty of them were selected and divided randomly into two groups of thirty; Experimental Reading Group one (ERG1) and Experimental Reading Group two (ERG2). Both groups received one of the reading passages from ‘Active Reading’ book (The blue one) as a pretest. Afterwards the teacher taught one of the passages from the same book to ERG1 in the class using communicative method and asked some comprehension questions in the end. She also taught the (ERG2) by sending the voice and the text through Whats app chanal and asked them some comprehension questions to provide the answers orally and send their voice to her through the app. Finally, the two groups took part in an oral posttest, The EGR1 in the class and the ERG2 through the app. The passage was taken from the same Active reading book. It was paralleled with the pretest text. The results of the study showed that the students in the Experimental group two did outperform their counterparts in the Experimental group one.The study has the implications for English teachers and EFL learners and also for material developers
