Abstract:

Electrodialysis (ED) as a membrane method with low contamination and energy consumption can be used to remove heat stable salts (HSS) from amines. In this study, the effect of membrane type on removal of HSS from amine solution in electrodialysis process was investigated. Two types of homogeneous ion exchange membrane andheterogeneous ion exchange membrane were used.It was shown that under the same conditions (at 1500 ppm concentration of anions) and after one hour, the amount of HSS anions removal by homogeneous ion exchange membranes was higher than heterogeneous ion exchange membrane (43% and 34%, respectively). The HSS removal rate is based on the electrochemical properties of the ion exchange membranes. Energy consumption in homogeneous ion exchange membranes was 8KWh/L lower than heterogeneous ion exchange membranes.
