Abstract:

One of the elements that influences the development of tourism and tourism industry is human communication and the effect that this type of communication creates in the minds of tourists. The purpose of this study is to offer strategies, the development of human communications in particular, which develop tourism industry and tourists’ status in the city of Mashhad. Variables such as the level of literacy, age, gender, values, customs and in general what has the greatest impacts on face to face communications with tourists were studied. The population of this study included tourists and a group of people directly related to tourists, such as hotel staff. Accordingly, variables such as cultural level, literacy, foreign language proficiency, and verbal communication usage were considered. A 44-item questionnaire was used for gathering data. In this study,descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used to classify and describe the information gathered. By means of the SPSS software, inferential statistics and chi-square test were used to summarize and analyze information. The results revealed that most of the tourists entering Iran were involved in verbal communication and the direct and face-toface communication between two or more people. Based on the findings, non-verbal communication is greatly influenced by head and face movements and eyes.
