Abstract:

Comparison of the buckling behavior of un-reinforced with the reinforced through-the-thickness textile composite laminates have been investigated experimentally. Composite specimens have been made from eight layers of E-glass plain woven fabric and epoxy resin. In the reinforced specimens, high-tenacity polyester stitch yarns have been used in the thickness direction. The stitches are aligned with the warp yarns. Based on the experimental results obtained by compressive tests, namely the extracted load - end-shortening curves and end-shortening - out-of-plain displacement curves for composite specimens, it is realized that the critical buckling load and the post buckling behavior of composite specimens are enhanced by incorporating stitches
