Abstract:

In the present paper, the mechanical properties of smart adhesively bonded joints are investigated. The adherends are fiber metal laminate (FML) composite and stainless steel (SS) and the joint is single lap adhesive joint. FMLs are made by hand lay-up technique fabricated by glass fiber layers and SS. The adhesive layer made by Araldite 2015 reinforced by shape memory alloys (SMA) short strips. The joints are subjected to tensile loading and the stress-strain curves were obtained for each specimens. The effect of some significant parameters including the effect of temperature, the pre-strain levels and direction of the SMA strips are investigated
