Abstract:

The mechanical properties of aluminum/magnesium double-layer composite sheets have been studied experimentally. Since lightweight structures in cars and other vehicles reduce fuel consumption and thus protect the environment, it is important to know the mechanical properties of these composite sheets. The roll bonding process has been used for the mechanical and metallurgical bonding between aluminum and magnesium in these composite sheets. The tensile test as well as the micro hardness test was used to measure the mechanical properties. The results show that the stress-strain diagram for these types of composite sheets has two drops, which is quite different from the stress-strain behavior of each of the primary sheets. Micro hardness test also showed that the hardness of these composite sheets increased in the vicinity of interface
