Abstract:
Background: Pterygium is an abnormal condition, along with a raised wedge-shaped growth on the surface of the eye. The exact etiology of pterygium is yet unknown, but some characterizations of pterygium , such as Angiogenesis, tissue structure and frequent recurrence, lead to compare its molecular mechanisms with acancerous cell. The aim of this study was to examine of LATs2 expression profile on the risk of pterygium.Material and methods: In this study, the RNA of 20 primary pterygium and 20 normal conjunctiva tissues were extracted and modified for preparing the cDNA. We estimated the mRNA expression levels of these genes in pterygium and normal conjunctiva tissue samples using real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR.The normalization of data has been done by RNA18s as an internal standard. Results: The outcomes of expression analyses exposed a statistically significant variation between cases and healthy controls concerning the relative expression. We used SPSS software for our statistic analysis. Conclusion: Our outcomes show a difference in expression profile of this critical gene in cell cycle between cases and controls and may open new window for studying the pathogenesis of pterygium, so suggesting more studies with large sample size in various populations to validate this data.
