Abstract:

Friction drilling is one of the most unusual methods of making holes. No swart is formed in friction drilling. The effect of workpiece temperature change, rotational speed and tool advance speed rate on the length and roughness of the bush surface created in the frictional drilling of 7000 series aluminum sheets is investigated. The workpiece used is 3mm thick aluminum sheet which is widely used in the airplane industry. The results show that there is a reverse relationship between the rate of advance and the length of the Bush. In fact, the bush length decreases by increasing the rate of advance and keeping the other test conditions constant. The results also show that increasing the temperature reduces the bush length and increasing the rotational speed and temperature of the workpiece reduces the surface roughness of the hole created. Validation tests were performed to confirm the results. Validation experiments show a maximum error of 9% for prediction of bush length and a maximum of 7% for prediction of surface roughness.
