Abstract:
Diameter of bones, thorns and scales of many fish species growth rate is proportionalto the body size. Accurate method of determining the age and its preciseness is oneof the most important ways to assess the relationship between age, length and weightin fisheries biology. Back-calculated of length in Capoeta damascina wasinvestigated by collection of 72 specimens (29 females and 43 males) from theBeheshtabad River of Chaharmahal-va-Bakhtiari. Mean lengths for females andmales were 26.07±4.4 and 20.4±2.3 cm, respectively. Age determination of thesamples was performed using scales, and lengths were back-calculated using theequation Li=Si×Sc-1(Lc-c)+c which was between 1+ to 7+ years for males andbetween 2+ and 7+ years for females. In this study, the rate of elongation in agegroups 4 to 7 years indicated a faster growth in females compared to males. The backcalculatedlengths for all age groups were lower than the observed lengths.
