Abstract:

Histological characteristic of scale in elasmobranchs is a species-specific features. Inthis study, nineteen specimens of Brown banded Bamboo sharks (Chiloscylliumpunctatum) were sampled from the Darvish Creek at the north of Persian Gulf. Skinsamples were removed and immediately fixed into Bouin’s solution. Histologicalsections of 5 μ prepared and stained using hematoxylin and eosin method. Themicroscopic results showed that the skin of head region process tiny placoid scalessimilar to that of other elasmobranchs containing three part: Crown (C), Neck (N)and Base (B). The base of scales are anchored in the dermis, and a thin epidermis isobserved among them. Also, the pulp cavity was detected under the crown. Inaddition, denticles are covered by an enamel cap possessing riblets.
