Abstract:

Magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) could be used in cancer therapy, as contrast agents in magnetic resonanceimaging (MRI), separation and drug delivery. Separation of these particles recently has attracted much attention. In thisstudy capillary electrophoresis (CE) was used to separate different mean diameters of iron oxide polyethylene glycolcoated (PEG) NPs from 20 up to 100 nm. At first we found optimum condition for separation of NPs such as buffer typeand concentration, pH of buffer, electric field strength and volume of sample. Then the NPs were analyzed in optimumcondition at the first one by one to estimate peaks shape and time and then injected to capillary couple by couple toinvestigate the effect of simultaneous injection of different size NPs on separation. The results showed that thesimultaneous injection of a couple of NPs affects the migration times of them and their peaks in the electrogram move tobe closed to each other. Also, separation for a couple is started when the difference of mean diameters is bigger than 15nm unless they will be appeared in one peak.
