Abstract:

The OGrid system is one of the bracing systems that have been recently proposed by researchers. This system consists of ductile elements placed in the moment frame. These elements absorb the energy of seismic loads. One of the advantages of this system is rapid replacement of damaged parts after exposure to seismic loads. In the OGrid system, there are members are placed as ductile elements in the moment frame to absorb the energy absorption. In addition to stiffness and ductility, these systems have lower architectural constraints. Moreover, following an earthquake, the damaged parts can also be replaced. In this research, the system is verified with a valid experimental sample, and then by changing the type of ductile elements and applying this system to different spans of varying cross sections, the seismic parameters such as stiffness, energy absorption and ultimate strength are calculated and compared with each other. The results suggest that utilizing profiles with a higher moment of inertia around its axis in the moment frame can improve the ductility and other seismic parameters, including stiffness and ultimate strength of the system so that with 80% increase in moment of inertia, the parameters of energy absorption, ultimate strength, stiffness can be increased by about 20%. Also, the use of a OGrid brace in a T3 frame, compared to the other two arrangements, enhances the energy absorption of the system.
