Abstract:

A carbon paste electrode modified with 1-methyl-3 butylimidazolium bromide and CuO decorated single-wall carbon nanotubes (1 -M-3 -BIBr/CuO/SWCNTs/CPE) was fabricated for determination of amaranth in the presence of nitrite in food samples.Electrochemical behavior of amaranth and nitrite at the 1-M-3-BIBr/CuO/SWCNTs/CPE had been investigated in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) by cyclic voltammetry (CV).other voltammetric techniques such as chronoamperometry (CA) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) were investigated. The structure of CuO/SWCNTs was confirmed by SEM method. Proposed sensor exhibited an enhancement in electro-oxidation current and active surface area. Also, this modified electrochemical sensor indicated high catalytic activity toward the electro-oxidation of amaranth and simultaneous determination of it in the presence of nitrite. The experimental results shows good linear dynamic range between 0.004–750 μM and 1.0–10,000 μM for amaranth and nitrite and ofcourse We obtained the detection limit of 1.0 nM and 0.5 μM for amaranth and nitrite, respectively. Finally the proposed sensor was successfully applied for the determination of amaranth and nitrite in foodstuff
