Abstract:

Azide-alkyne click reaction was applied for the synthesis of new derivative of bactericidal POSS nanoparticles containing aromatic quaternary ammonium salt moieties (QAS) with low hydrophilicity. In this regard, 1, 2, 3- riazoliumfunctionalized POSS (Triazolium-POSS) was synthesized and incorporated in a dental restorative system composed of ternary thiolallyl ether-methacrylate resin and glass fillers. A similar system was also prepared by replacing POSS additive with quaternized dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate monomer (DMAEMA-BC) as a common bactericidal agent. The results of FT-IR and 1HNMR spectroscopies confirmed the synthesis of Triazolium-POSS. Antibacterial property, water sorption and mechanical properties of dental composites were evaluated. The nanocomposite containing Triazolium-POSS showed significantly higher bactericidal activity against Streptococcus mutans than other system. Despite of partial increase in water uptake for Triazolium-POSS containing sample, this factor was much favour than the composite made from DMAEMA-BC
